Smoking

  • Smoking is the single greatest cause of preventable illness, premature death and health inequality.  Up to 2,300 people die prematurely each year in Northern Ireland from smoking related illnesses.  Smoking harms those who do not smoke through exposure to environmental tobacco smoke and parental smoking can harm children before they are born.  £164m is the annual hospital bill for treating smoking related illnesses.  These are all good reasons for giving them up.  Make this year's No Smoking Day a day to remember.  Give them up and be proud to be a quitter!

    The Healthy Living Centre Alliance, alongside the Public Health Agency, Cancer Focus and the British Heart Foundation, completed a major mobilisation in March 2015 in Belfast, Derry, Ards Peninsula, Fermanagh and Tyrone, marking No Smoking Day.  We engaged almost 900 smokers in about four hours! Read More...
