Bogside and Brandywell - Kealan's Story:

From teenage obesity to tutoring for better health - an inspirational story from Derry.

A young Derry dad who turned his life around thanks to a community-run health programme has been telling his inspirational story. Twenty-two-year-old Kealan O’Kane has lost an amazing six stones with the help of Bogside and Brandywell Health Forum – one of three local groups celebrating after winning £10,000 each in a competition to celebrate a decade of the Big Lottery Fund.

Also toasting their Big Lottery win are Kinship Care and Foyle Down Syndrome Trust who were among the 10 winners of the competition which gave away £100,000 of funding to groups which have changed people’s lives or transformed communities over the past decade.

The Big Lottery Fund asked people to nominate groups that had made a big impact on them, and Kealan O’Kane nominated the Bogside and Brandywell Health Forum for the support they gave him. As a teenager, the fast food and fizzy drinks Kealan was putting into his body were slowly killing him without him knowing it.
